We’re Back (14 Years Later)

The last time I wrote a post on this site, Derrick Rose was the reigning MVP, Dirk Nowitzki was about to win a Finals, and the phrase “Golden State dynasty” would have gotten you laughed out of a sports bar.

That was March 2011.

It’s now April 2026. A lot has happened.

The Warriors won four championships. Steph Curry, who my old co-writer Mike called “maybe the better man to have” over Derrick Rose in what is now the funniest post in our archive, changed the entire sport. LeBron is still playing — he’s 41, currently on the Lakers (again), and about to finish a 23rd season. Giannis went from unknown teenager to two-time MVP. Kawhi won titles on two different teams. Luka was traded. Luka was traded. I’m still not over it.

The league I walked away from doesn’t really exist anymore. The pace is faster. Threes are everywhere — teams are taking 40+ a game. Centers stretch the floor. Point guards are 6’9”. The Thunder, who I used to joke about when they were still the Seattle SuperSonics, are currently 64-18 with a young core that’s terrifying.

And fantasy basketball has changed with it.

Back in 2008, a “good” fantasy center got you 12 and 8 and blocked some shots. Now Victor Wembanyama averages a 5×5 stat line most nights. Three-point volume is a category that actually matters. Punt builds are more sophisticated. Daily fantasy is a whole industry. League formats I’d never heard of — dynasty, BBM categories, salary cap keepers — are now mainstream.

I missed all of it.

What this site is now

I’m not going to pretend to be caught up on everything. I’m catching up alongside anyone who reads this. The plan is simple:

  • One post a week during the NBA season. Waiver wire pickups, streaming plays, strategy posts.
  • Honest takes. If I don’t know something, I’ll say so. If I’m wrong about a player, I’ll eat it.
  • Respect for your time. Short when it can be short, long when it needs to be long. No 3,000-word intros to a ranking list.

What this site isn’t

  • I’m not trying to compete with the big sites. FantasyPros, RotoWire, Hashtag Basketball — those guys have full teams and projection models. They’re great. I’m one person with opinions and a history with this domain.
  • I’m not going to post for the sake of posting. If I don’t have something useful to say in a given week, I’d rather skip than pad.
  • I’m not here to sell you DFS lineups or guarantee anything. This is a blog, not a service.

A note on the archive

Everything Mike and I wrote between 2007 and 2011 is still live. Some of it has aged into unintentional comedy (see: 5 Reasons the Lakers Will NOT Win the 2009 NBA Championship — they won in 2009 AND 2010). Some of it has held up surprisingly well, particularly the strategy posts. Browse around if you’re curious.

The comments are still there too. Hundreds of them, some from 2008, some from 2012. I’m leaving them alone. It’s an artifact.

What’s next

The 2025-26 playoffs are about to start. That’s probably the first real post — a look at the fantasy implications for anyone still grinding out a late-season keeper decision or prepping for next year’s draft. After that, offseason draft prep content until October when the new season starts.

If you’re reading this: hi. Thanks for being here. Leave a comment if you’re around.

To hoops,
Farid
